He is also Chairman of the Baker Gordon Educational Symposium on Cosmetic Surgery, the oldest symposium of cosmetic surgery in the world. Not content to simply mange this widely regarded meeting, Dr. Stuzin also performs live surgery demonstrations to teach other plastic surgeons his cutting edge techniques for face lifting, neck lifting, endoscopic brow lifting and upper- and lower-eyelid surgery.

The videos of these procedures are stored on The Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery website where they are among the most widely viewed videos by plastic surgeons globally.

Area of Expertize and Specialization

Dr. Stuzin has had a passion for facial rejuvenation dating back almost 40 years. While studying craniofacial surgery at the UCLA School of Medicine, Dr. Stuzin published several articles on advances in facial anatomy which laid the groundwork for developing techniques used in modern facelifts. In the years since their publication, these articles have become classics of the field that are frequently cited by medical researchers and plastic surgeons around the world.

Dr. Stuzin’s work, however, goes beyond just anatomic theory. After entering into practice with Dr Thomas J. Baker, Dr. Baker and Dr. Stuzin developed “The Extended SMAS” procedure — now a widely utilized technique in facelifts. The approach was groundbreaking in the way it put aesthetics central to the practice of plastic surgery, allowing restoration of a facial shape to a more youthful form without the surgical distortion so commonly seen in other face-lifting procedures. This procedure not only enhances facial appearance and contour, but it has the additional benefit of minimizing scar perceptibility and signs that the patient has undergone surgery.

After having performed several thousand Extended SMAS procedures throughout his career, Dr. Stuzin is not only the co-founder of this technique, but one of the world’s leading experts on its execution.

Following this, Dr. Stuzin served as President of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the organization which represents plastic surgeons who have focused their careers on cosmetic surgery. For many years, Dr Stuzin has also served as the educational director and Program Chairman for the Aesthetic Society, lecturing on facial anatomy, techniques in face and neck-lifting as well as moderating panel discussions with other recognized experts in facial rejuvenation.
